When was the last time you found yourself in an unpleasant situation because you follow Jesus? Our neighbourhood consists of almost 100% Muslims and if you follow Jesus here, it's always unpleasant from time to time. This is sometimes true for us as foreigners, but even more so for people who grow up here. We would like to give you an insight into a very recent story. A teacher (Mary) at our language school has been interested in Jesus and the Bible for a long time. She reads regularly, both with someone from our team and on her own, and has lots of questions. Her husband knows about it and he doesn't mind, but her mother-in-law (who is in charge at home) finds it a thorn in her side. She keeps giving Mary a hard time about it, swearing at her and putting her under pressure. At the beginning of this week, she threatened to call Mary's father so that he could \"beat her up\" and then carried out this threat. Although Mary is a Muslim woman who is \"only\" dealing with Jesus and asking questions, she is already being harassed and intimidated by those around her. As a team, we pray a lot for her and are very enthusiastic about what Mary's father has said. Instead of the reaction the mother-in-law wanted, he actually stood behind his daughter! He said that she was reliable, did her work well, didn't steal and took good care of the house and yard. As a good Muslim, the mother-in-law should also read the holy scriptures, as this is what the Koran commands. If she wanted to divorce Mary because of her interest, he would take care of his daughter. As you can imagine, this was very encouraging and liberating for Mary.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
