The summer holidays are just around the corner and some of us will probably be enjoying a holiday during this time. Three years ago, I went on holiday with a good friend of mine. Shortly before and during this time, I was preoccupied with the question \"Can\/may a follower of Jesus go on holiday?\" Although holidays are quite normal for many people, they are not for many people around the world - because they are not exactly cheap. I was very concerned about this question. Nevertheless, I was looking forward to this time on Gran Canaria.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Due to the coronavirus pandemic, certain things were still restricted. Many restaurants were still closed. We were not allowed to leave the hotel after 22:00. However, as we had booked half board, we didn't really have to leave the hotel. As we were sitting at the pool bar in the evening, we struck up a conversation with a couple from Switzerland. During the course of the evening, we got to talking about the fact that the woman had just lost her grandmother and was now on holiday here. During the course of the conversation, I had the idea that I should ask her if I could pray for her. She responded very openly to my question and I was allowed to pray for her. Two days later, we sat together again in the pool bar. Right at the beginning, she told me how touched she had been by my prayer. In the meantime, she had told her family and some friends. The four of us spent the evening together again and had lots of good conversations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
I found this encounter simply brilliant. It was the answer to my question \"Can\/should a follower of Jesus go on holiday?\" On the one hand, it gave me a big yes. Followers of Jesus are also allowed to go to a different place, come to rest there and enjoy the unfamiliar surroundings. On the other hand, the encounter gave me a big no. As a follower of Jesus, I cannot go on holiday - I can change my place, but I am and remain a follower.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Since then, I go on holiday differently. I always want to be ready to meet people, listen to them and pray for them, even when I'm on holiday. Because a follower of Jesus cannot go on holiday.
