Prayer as an adventure?

Advent, actually adventus Domini (coming of the Lord), refers to the time of year in which Christians prepare the feast of the birth of Jesus Christ, Christmas. Recently I noticed that the word Advent, with the three letters u-r-e added, means adventure. German, Abenteuer. This is a very meaningful play on words. The theme for 2018 was "Abentüür Gebät". Prayer then becomes an adventure, when we let Jesus arrive in our hearts and encounter him.

Has prayer already become an adventure for you Has prayer become an adventure for you or is it more of a chore? We cannot this encounter with our Creator, but we can provoke it by being fully there. being there.

Dietrich Bonhoeffer said: "No one possesses God in such a way that he no longer would no longer have to wait for him completely. And yet: no one can wait for God who does not who does not know that God has been waiting for him for a long time."

Bonhoeffer expresses with this that we all need to wait for God. At the same time, however, we must always remember that God has been waiting for us for a long time. He is always first. Our waiting for God is wrapped up in God's waiting for us. This God is more than we are when he can meet us.

But - "no goat licks away", that we should wait for him completely. This is also what it says in Jeremiah 29:13f: "If you seek me, you will find me; yes, if you earnestly, with all your heart, desire me, I will let you find me. let me be found by you."

Life with Jesus becomes an adventure adventure when the message of this verse becomes personal experience. This clash of "longing for God with all my heart" with "I will let you find me" is highly explosive and incredibly exciting. I will let you find me" is highly explosive and incredibly exciting.

A new year is upon us. It is a great concern to me that our services inspire us to earnestly seek this God. I am happy if you experience many valuable encounters with the waiting God. Then we will have a really good year with lots of Advent.ure!
