seetal chile Post 09/2025
All the news at a glance.
Dear friends of the seetal chile
by Cédric Brügger
Over five hundred years ago, a far-reaching upheaval took place in Europe. The Reformation largely supplanted the Roman Catholic Church. One of the goals of Germany's most important reformer was to bring people closer to their faith again. Martin Luther's motto for his German translation of the Bible was «You have to listen to the people.» In doing so, he paved the way for people to read and understand the Bible for themselves! Luther empowered ordinary people and stood up for them.
Until he came along, the world of work was also divided into clearly secular and clearly spiritual entities. The clergy were the monks and nuns in the monasteries, i.e. all those who served the Church. They fulfilled God's will, while the work of farmers and craftsmen was considered inferior. But here Luther brought about a revolution, the fruits of which can still be seen in our language today. He elevated «simple» work to the same level as spiritual work by calling it a «vocation.» A vocation is not something that can be chosen, but rather something to which one is called. Through this linguistic trick, Luther made it clear that all work, whether spiritual or secular, is part of the divine order. The goal is always to serve one's neighbour.
Luther linked the inner calling of a follower of Jesus Christ with the outer calling – everyday life, work or social status. Wherever you are is the right place to follow Jesus Christ and serve him and your neighbour. «Accept the life in which the Lord has placed you, and continue to live as you did when God called you. [...]» (1 Corinthians 7:17 NLB). By emphasising every profession, something else becomes clear: every job has dignity. For it is God who calls us to our vocation. But God not only calls us, he is also the originator of work. He himself worked when he created the earth. As his image-bearers, we are now invited to help shape the world and make a creative mark on it – for the good of our neighbours! Thus, work is more than an end in itself, more than just a means of earning a living; it is an expression of our human likeness to God. The current sermon series «Work & Faith» is a warm invitation to discover your calling in your profession!
Livestream 500(0)
As a church, we have an important mission: we want to bring the good news of Jesus Christ to people. We are convinced that God has entrusted us with a gift in the form of our livestream equipment – one that we should use and apply responsibly. Under the motto «from the region for the region», we want to bring our church services into even more living rooms and hearts. To achieve this, we need each other!
We already experienced this sense of community during the successful toothpaste/mustard/Ricola campaign. Thank you very much for your commitment at that time. If you would like to continue supporting our evangelistic work in a concrete way, there are the following options:
- Tell others about our livestream! Talk to your neighbours, friends or colleagues about it. You can use the seetal chile business cards as a handy aid (available at the exit).
- Use your WhatsApp status for Jesus! Some time ago, our multimedia team prepared an advertising banner that we can share on WhatsApp status or elsewhere on Sunday mornings before the service. We wholeheartedly invite you to get involved! On our blog (https://blog.seetal-chile.ch/2024/11/18/livestream-5000/) you will find instructions on how this works.
- Help us expand our reach on YouTube! Subscribe to our channel, give the videos a 👍 and write a short comment on a sermon. We are not interested in click numbers and we certainly do not want to earn money with it, but it is about people – people who can be touched and changed by the gospel.
We are convinced that this way of spreading the good news is accessible, contemporary – and effective. Together, we can reach more people!
Bühler family, Switzerland
Dear seetal chile,
Regina has recovered well from her second hip operation, is diligently doing her exercises and is back at work in the office of a Salvation Army congregation in Zurich.
After the summer holidays, it will become clear which Bible study groups among Turkish-speaking people will continue and which will ‘fall dormant’. Two new groups are planned in Winterthur and Aarau, where Markus will be involved. In autumn, MEOS invites you to visit its staff directly at their places of work (programme: www.meos.ch). On 5 and 6 September 2025, the doors of the office in Adliswil will be open. From September onwards, the new monthly calendars will be available in various languages from MEOS Media.
Various acquaintances from Turkey report that their asylum applications have been rejected. Some have lodged appeals, others must leave Switzerland. One man has been in a secure psychiatric clinic since his application was rejected. At the same time, we are observing how accepted asylum seekers are organising themselves into Muslim religious associations.
More than two years on, the situation in the earthquake zone in Turkey remains difficult: many families are living in overcrowded container cities (only around 4,700 of the 27,000 state-built homes have been occupied) with inadequate sanitary facilities. The destruction of health facilities (only four of 13 in Adıyaman have been rebuilt) and the loss of medical personnel have severely restricted access to basic care. A study shows that the quality of life of container dwellers is significantly worse than that of the general population (report by Médecins-du-Monde-Türkiye).
The new pastor for the congregation in Adıyaman moved there in mid-August with his wife and four children and has begun his work. The children have to get used to new schools, teachers and classmates. They have come from a lively congregation with many families to a rather isolated place where they are building up the church.
Thank you very much for your support and prayers,
Regina and Markus

We are very grateful that, despite it being the summer month of July, we have only seen a small increase in the difference between actual and budgeted income. Many thanks for your generosity. May God reward you!
